Texas businesses and governments are already using artificial intelligence. In February, Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan created an Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council to explore how state agencies could use the technology. Nearly 40% of Texas companies use AI, according to a recent survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and more plan to adopt the technology in the next year.

Chair, Good Systems, Ethical AI at UT Austin; assistant dean for state and local government engagement, University of Texas at Austin
Greenberg is a professor of practice and fellow of the Max Sherman Chair in State and Local Government at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and she is a professor of practice at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Additionally, she is the LBJ School Assistant Dean for State and Local Government Engagement. She is a primary researcher for, and is chair of Good Systems, The University of Texas Grand Challenge regarding ethical AI.
Wilkins is chief data officer at Starling Medical. Previously, she served as executive director of Rice University's Ken Kennedy Institute, an interdisciplinary group that works collaboratively on groundbreaking research in artificial intelligence, data and computing. She is also one of four members appointed to the Texas Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council by Gov. Greg Abbott. The council is studying how state agencies use AI.
Al Sherif is a technical engineering lead in machine learning and generative AI at Google. She focuses on areas such as state and local government, federal and defense, and has a background in AI ethics. Al Sherif has experience working with early-stage machine learning and AI startups in the defense and intelligence space, and established a non-profit organization, The Data Ethics Consortium for Security, focusing on the crossroads between security and AI in the public sector space.
Cameron oversees the work of the photo, multimedia and data visuals teams and works closely with the product, engineering and design teams to elevate the Tribune’s visual journalism. Previously, she was the data visuals editor, leading a team of developers at the intersection of graphics and news applications. Before joining the Tribune, she worked at The Washington Post and the Tampa Bay Times. Darla is a Colorado native with a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
